
THE RULES
11 Hour
Rule
'No driver shall drive more than 11 hours total following at least 10 consecutive hours
off duty.' Stated another way: Do not drive after accumulating 11 Hours of Driving
without taking 10 consecutive hours off duty.
Off duty time is defined as:
1. 10 consecutive hours off duty.
2. 10 consecutive hours in a regulation sleeper berth.
3. 10 consecutive hours of combination sleeper berth and off duty times
14 Hour
Duty Period
Drivers may drive up to 11 hours, but are limited to 14 hours overall in a duty period.
The 14 hour duty period cannot be extended except by the use of the sleeper berth for two
hours or more.
70 Hour
Rule
'No driver shall drive after having been On-Duty 70 hours in any 8 consecutive days' This
rule applies to companies that operate 7 days a week.
