FILLING OUT THE LOG GRID

The upper third of the log, items 1 through 7, is self-explanatory (refer to log below).

To keep your log current you must update it every time you change your duty status. That means that you bring your log up to date before you start moving the truck. You must keep track of your time to the nearest quarter hour.

On the log below the horizontal lines in off duty show that he was off duty from midnight until 4 AM and again from 5:45 PM until midnight. The vertical line at 4 AM shows that he changed duty status, from off duty to on duty not driving. The horizontal line from 4 to 4:30 in the on duty not driving line indicates that he was working but not at the controls of his vehicle. Just before he started driving at 4:30 he drew a vertical line to the driving section of the grid. He also drew a flag line in the remarks section and wrote in where the change of duty happened and what he did while there.
