Phillip Nye’s Career Opportunity

“It was really quick,” shared our placement coordinator when we asked about Phillip Nye’s job hunting. “There were some immediate openings with a large trucking company. [Phillip was] really open to going over the road. Really open minded.” Within a week of getting his class A license and already coming in with a clean driving record, Phillip landed an OTR position with one of the top largest trucking companies.

“Interfaith gave me the opportunity to go to your school–glad they did!” Interfaith Community Services, based in North San Diego County, is a “continuum of programs and services that provides the tools and resources people in crisis need to stabilize and rebuild their lives.”

What made Phillip decide to pursue trucking? “My age,” he said, “finding a career at this time of my life. I believe trucking will fill that need.” Phillip will be turning 60 in a few years. What our industry contacts tell us is that, “trucking knows no age”– all you have to do is pass your DOT physical.

For Phillip, his best moment was, “passing the test at the DMV. The more tests I passed, the better I felt. […] Just going back to the school setting, I have not studied anything for the past 25 years. I just kept believing that I could do it.” After completing the entire course and finding a job immediately, the most valuable thing for him was, “Getting my confidence back.”

By pushing forward and always maintaining a positive attitude, Phillip learned truck driving skills, got his license and ultimately landed a stable job. Once again, we want to congratulate Phillip for getting his CDL and grabbing the job opportunity by the horns. We wish him more success in his future!
