How One Student Overcame Funding

Over the summer, Alex Alonso came to California Career School to obtain his Class A license and secure employment as a truck driver. Funding, however, proved to be a very difficult ordeal.

Alex needed to secure a way to pay for school– a struggle that many students across the country have always experienced. “I appreciate what the school did for me. They used their expertise to find me the best financial resources for my situation.”

What Alex was referring to was being unable to obtain training funds through key agencies like the EDD/WIA and he also did not qualify for federal student aid. On top of this, he was unable to use his VA benefits because his daughter had been utilizing it for her education.

To combat these hurdles, California Career School assisted Alex in his search of alternative funding options. By making use of the military veterans’ discount that California Career School offers and by placing him with an employer partner who offers tuition reimbursement, Alex’s tuition cost was covered 100%.

Alex completed our training program at the top of his class, obtaining both his Class A and Class B license on his first try. “I know I got the best training at California Career School because when I went to the DMV, it showed. The other school’s student looked like it was the first time in a truck.”

Now that Alex has completed all 300 hours of his training, he will begin his truck driving career with Werner Enterprises. “I am looking forward to getting started. This is something I have always wanted to do. After my recent lay off and just celebrating my 47th birthday, I felt this was the perfect time to fulfill a lifetime goal.”

Moving Day Update

Our Oceanside instructor Jose Ballesteros went down to the Hyatt Huntington Beach Hotel for the 3rd time yesterday to continue the furniture move coordinated with Liz Diaz at Camp Pendleton’s Family Readiness Center.

According to Miss Diaz, one trailer will definitely not fit what will be transported this Wednesday. She has asked if we will be available again today. More updates later on the event!

Here are a few clips from the previous trips taken by one of our students with his phone:

Helping Marines At The Hyatt

On September 24 and October 8 of this year, Camp Pendleton’s Family Readiness Center combined efforts with California Career School’s drivers and the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach to bring this furniture donation effort to fruition.

Where was this furniture going? To the Family Readiness Center at Camp Pendleton to be donated to Marine families in need of furniture to set up their households.

CCS instructor Jose Ballesteros worked with 15-20 Marines and 1 student during each visit to the Hyatt to load up furniture into one of our trailers for transportation to Camp Pendleton. Having previously worked as a supervisor in a shipping company for 2 years, Mr. Ballesteros communicated the proper way to load up furniture as compactly and safely as possible, thus enriching the training for the participating students Soane Langi and Wayne Pak scheduled to graduate this year.

During the first visit, over 2/3 of the trailer was full. However, the second visit proved even more successful – the efforts of the Marines and drivers completely packed the trailer and, according to Mr. Ballesteros, there was still more furniture left over. With such a high volume of material, there could be no doubt that the furniture would be helping a significant number of families settle into their homes.

Furniture Transported on Day 2:
50+ mattresses
10-15 couches
70+ chairs
40-50 tables
100 lamps
80+ nightstands
8-9 TVs

Many thank yous to Camp Pendleton Family Readiness Center, USMC, Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach, Jose, Soane, and Wayne for making this happen!

Grateful Student Secures Employment with Wackenhut with Help from California Career School in Southern California

ANDY EISENSTEINTo Whom it May Concern:

Recently I attended your school as a new hire for G4S Wackenhut Transport wherein we were required to learn how to drive an MC-12 bus.

For me, learning the “COLA” and everything else relative to passing the Class B DMV test was the hardest thing I ever did!  I had many difficulties learning the written material and going through the skills test and, as a point of fact, I failed the DMV skills test the first time I took it.

However, your instructors, Russell in particular, exhibited wonderful patience and a willingness to work with me and get me to overcome my challenges and in the end I passed the DMV test, acquired my Class B license and am now working as an armed transport officer.

I would also like to commend, Brandon, Robert, and Donnavin, for their excellent teaching skills and participation in getting my entire class through this course.

Kudos to you and a pat on the back to these terrific gentlemen.

Continued future success to all of you!

Sincerely,

Andy Eisenstein
